Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
That does not mean that one has to practise all that is written in the Bible.
In contrary, many scriptures show the conscequences of doing some of the things recorded in the Bible, and by not abiding by the moral rules of God's word.
Just read the story of Sampson and Jonah, and you will soon learn what NOT to do.
Read the story of Daniel and how he ended up in the lion's den. We are taught to abide in God and to expect the impossible, by the way Daniel reacted and by the result of putting faith in Him to shut the lions mouth.
Read the amazing/encouraging story of Esther how through her actions, with the help of her uncle Mordecai, the whole nation of Israel was saved from annihilation. This story teaches courage, determination and faith, for example.
We should follow the honorable and God pleasing actions, NOT the wicked, dishonorable and sinful behavior.
Walking in the footsteps of Christ Jesus gives us LIFE eternal, but doing the sinful acts, following satan, presents eternal death. Of both God's word teaches and instructs the reader.
I will bring the blind by the way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known. Isaiah 42:16
Choose now whom you want to follow and serve!
